Slag Fluidizer
Thins the slag you already have — so the lime dissolves and the reactions speed up.

High-basicity slag that goes stiff is not short of lime — it is short of dissolved lime. Calcium silicate builds a network through the slag that holds it viscous, the lime sits in it as undissolved islands, and the slag-steel reaction slows to a crawl. The usual reaction on the floor is to add more lime, which makes the slag thicker still.
A Slag Fluidizer attacks that network directly. Its low-melting-point components penetrate the viscous high-lime slag, break the calcium silicate structure apart, and bring both melting point and viscosity down. Lime that would otherwise sit undissolved goes into solution quickly, and the kinetics of the slag-steel reaction improve sharply as a result — the same slag, in the same furnace, simply works better.
Be clear about what this product is and what it is not. It is a slag conditioner. It does not build a slag system from nothing the way a slag-forming agent does, and it does not itself combine with sulphur or phosphorus the way a desulphuriser does. What it does is make the slag you already have behave properly, so the reactions that remove those elements can get on with their work.
The right addition rate depends on your slag composition and furnace practice. Our engineers will work out a starting dosage for your line and fine-tune it with you — that is the part most traders cannot offer.
What it does for your line
- Turns over-thickened, high-basicity slag fluid again
- Helps undissolved lime enter the slag — less lime burned per heat
- Improves the kinetics of the slag-steel reaction: the same slag works faster
- Fewer inclusions stay trapped in the bath — they reach the slag layer more readily
- Added at one fifth to one tenth of a slag-forming agent — a conditioning additive, not a bulk charge
- 0–6 mm granular: feeds evenly by hand or through an automatic charging system

All grades can be customised — composition, particle size, melting behaviour, alkalinity and packaging are all adjustable. Send us your steel grade and furnace practice — we will recommend an existing grade or formulate one to suit.
Slag forming, slag conditioning, slag removal — which one do you actually need?
In Chinese these three products differ by a single character, and buyers routinely ask for them as if they were the same material. They are not. They sit at three different points in the steelmaking sequence, they do three different jobs, and none of them substitutes for another.
| Aspect | Slag-forming agent | Slag Fluidizer — this product | Deslagging agent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Job in the process | Builds the slag system from nothing | Conditions a slag system that already exists | Takes the floating slag off, physically |
| Core constituents | CaO, Fe₂O₃ / FeO, Al₂O₃, MgO | Fluorite-based, or Al₂O₃–CaO with low-melting components | Perlite / volcanic ash — SiO₂ 65–80 %, Al₂O₃ 10–18 % |
| Mechanism | Chemical: reacts to reach a target slag basicity and carries out the refining | Physico-chemical: drops melting point and viscosity; does not itself combine with impurities | Purely physical: expands, adsorbs and agglomerates the floating slag |
| Where it is added | Converter or EAF early in the heat; LF slag-building stage | Converter mid-blow; LF fluxing stage, onto slag that has gone stiff | Ladle or tundish, after tapping and before casting |
| Typical addition rate | Several to a dozen kg per tonne of steel | One fifth to one tenth of the slag-forming agent | 1–3 kg per tonne of steel |
The sequence is slag forming → slag conditioning → slag removal. They follow one another in that order, and none of the three replaces another.

Ingot Teeming Flux
Clean ingot surfaces. Fewer dressing hours. Less scrap.
